Agustin Cruz Tinoco

Agustin creates an enormous variety of fanciful figures and objects: saints holding scales of justice, nativities (mounted on a tortoise or placed in a car), seated fishing animal figures, carts, carousels, ferris wheels, and mermaids whose tails serve as boats transporting human and animal figures.

Originally from the far away Sierra Mixe, he moved closer to Oaxaca – to a town near the airport not otherwise known for folk art — to better sell his work. Agustin carves with his two sons, and his two daughters do the lively decorative painting, with Agustin participating in the selection of colors. Agustin work is quite polished and detailed, and is decorated with acrylic paints.
