Meet the Artisan

Alejandro Diaz Nava
My name is Alejandro Diaz Nava, I was born on June 6th of 1976 in the community of Xalitla, municipality of Tepecoacuilco, Guerrero.
My parents are Mr. Bernabe Diaz Remigio and Ines Nava Jimenez, both came from humble families and have dedicated themselves to the artisan work of amate paper and woody black mud, which is a family trade.
At the age of 8 years old, I began to work with paint, and at the age of 12-13, I was already proficient, due to the fact that I am a 3rd generation member of a family of artisans. That is how I started to work with amate paper and black mud, then I started to participate in regional and national contest and events from FONART (A national governmental office that seeks to preserve art), in which I was awarded in both levels, some of those contest took place in Mexico City.
Currently, I still work with artesanias (Mexican Folk Art), and my goal is to thrive and continue advancing with this beautiful Mexican art.
