Eduardo Sanchez Rodriguez

Born and Raised in: Tierra Nueva San Luis Potosí.

Birthday: October 13th 1970

I have always been interested in arts in general, but it was since I started to look for my own identity that I decided to start my career in the roots of our Mexico. And this is why my research process is oriented in Popular Mexican Art and imprinted it  in Great Works of Popular Art, which was been a constant satisfaction to be knows by my our style that is focused on the rescue of original techniques of popular art that started in the pre-Columbian era and travel all the way to the conquest, the independence, and the revolution; rescuing images that portrayed the traditions that still remain in our country thanks to artisans and historians that show us the creations of this beautiful land.

Throughout the years of experience, I have participated in really important National Contest, participating in both painting and sculpture, with antique techniques such feather work,  enconchado (shell inlayed technique), wax work, corn cane, embroidery, carved glass, bone sgraffed, etc. Even with some technique hybrids; obtaining recognition of several institutions, such as:

  • 1993. 1st statal award in Popular Art of North region (San Luis Potosi). National Award “The Hands of Mexico” given by the President of Mexico BA. Carlos Salinas de Gortari.
  • 1996. 1st national award in Popular Art contest “The Hands of Mexico” Toluca, Mexico; in the category of Enconchados (shell inlayed technique). Award of the Cultural Development Foundation Banamex, as one of the 150 Masters of Popular Art in Mexico and collective display in the Palacio de Iturbe in Mexico City.
  • 1997. Individual display “New horizons of the past” in the Century Museum of San Pedro Garza Garcia, N.L. Individual display in the Museum of Mexican History of Monterrey, N.L. (Work of the month).
  • 1998. 1st Place in the National Award of Popular Art “The Hands of Mexico” in Mexico City; in the category of feather work.
  • 1999. Piece creation for the National Museum of Popular Art in Mexico City (Typical Alabaster pieces of the state of Nuevo Leon). Creation of a feather work art for the collection of the University of Puebla de Los Angeles Museum.
  • 2000. 1st Place in the National Contest of Popular Art “The Hands of Mexico” in Mexico City; in the category of Enconchados (shell inlayed technique). Collective display of the 150 Masters of Popular Art in Mexico, in the Museum of Mexican History in Monterrey N.L. México.
  • Exposed work in the Basilica of San Pedro (Vatican City) enconchado (shell inlayed technique) creation donated by the Government of Puebla de Los Angeles to the Vatican.
  • 2001. 1st National Place in the Popular Art Contest “The Hands of Mexico” in Mexico City; in the category of Lapidary.
  • Collective Exposition of the Cultural Development Banamex foundation that presented the 150 Great Masters of the Popular Art in Mexico in the museums of Dallas Museum of Art, Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum of San Antonio TX., Smithsonian Institutions of Chicago Illinois, Cocker Art Museum New York City.
  • 2002. Collective display of the 150 Great Masters of the Popular Art in Mexico, in the Museum of America in Madrid, Spain. National Award given by Cultural Development Banamex in Mexico City; in the category of Enconchados (shell inlayed technique in the representation of Christ birth).
  • 2003. 1st place award in two different sections of the National Contest “The Great Popular Art Award” in Mexico City; in the categories of Glass and Enconchados (shell inlayed technique).
  • 2004. Honorific mention in the Nacimientos (representation of Christ birth) Contest of Cultural Development Banamex Foundation, with a feather work creation.       
  • 2005. 2nd place award in the category of Living Legends, with a creation of Nacre Shell piece.
  • 2006. 2nd place award in the category of Living Legends, with the creation of a Sgraffed bone piece.
  • 2007. Presidential Prize Maximus Popular Art Award in Mexico, given by the President of Mexico Felipe Calderon Hinojosa, in Los Pinos. (Mexican presidential house).
  • 2008. 1st place in the category of Living Legends, in the National event “Great Popular Art Award”, with a Miter Silver piece with hummingbird feathers.
  • 2009. Special Award, 1st place “Independence and Mexican Revolution Bi-century” National Event with a creation called “Viva Mexico”.
  • 2010. 1st place Award with the best creation of the National Event “Rescue of Antique Techniques” and recognition by Cultural Development Banamex.
  • Collective Exposition of Great Masters of Popular Art in the Bi-century exposition in Silao, Guanajuato. Exposition Great Masters of Popular Art of the Century and Bi-century, November of 2010 in the Palacio de Iturbide, Mexico City.
  • 2012. Workshop impartation in Garcia, Nuevo Leon. This workshop was directed to the young people of limited resources, as an opportunity to develop a career with the feather work techniques, Sgraffed Seed and Glass, which is still a money income for them.
  • 2013. I receive a retrospective homage in Monterrey, where my work was exposed and noticed by Sotheby`s to be included in the Latin-American Art Auction.
  • 2014. Sixth National Award in my career with a Nacimiento in feather work. 1st National Award in the Great Masters of the Artisan Heritage of Mexico, in Mexico City.
  • 2015. 1st National Award in the Great Masters of the Artisan Heritage of Mexico, in Mexico City.
  • 2016. Great Masters of Popular Art in Mexico exposition, in the Tijuana Cultural Center.
  • Popular Art Auction in the Museum of Popular Art of Mexico City and collective exposition called ARTE-SANO.
