Meet the Artisan

Josue Eleazar Castro Razo
Josue Eleazar Castro Razo is an artisan that lives in the city of Salamanca, Guanajuato. His taste for cardboard work started in 2011, when he began to take lessons with the master Osvaldo Ruelas Ramirez, this along with his studies in Mechanic Engineer, gave as a result his tendency to create traditional toys that are capable of movement.
The elaboration technique of his toys along with the creative freedom to imprint his essence in each piece, have allow him many national awards, which are the following:
- 1st place in the 16th edition of the Artisan Creativity Award.
- 1st place in the 18th edition of the Artisan Creativity Award.
- 2nd place in the 2nd edition of the National Contest of Young Creators.
- 1st place in the 16th edition of the Artisan Creativity Award.
- 3rd place in the 40th edition of the Great Mexican Popular Art Award.
- 2nd place in the 3rd edition of the National Contest of Young Creators.
- 2nd place in the 19th edition of the Artisan Creativity Award.
- 1st place in the 22th edition of the National Contest of Nacimientos (representations of the Birth of Jesus Christ).
- 1st place in the 20th edition of the Artisan Creativity Award.
- Honorific mention in the 5th edition of the National Contest of Popular Mexican Toys.
- National Award in the 6th edition of the National Contest of Popular Mexican Toys.
- 2nd place in the 42th edition of the Great Award of the Popular Mexican Art.
With 6 years of experience Josue has been looking to give “life” to each of his creations through movement, where he imprints the very essence of the popular Mexican culture and its traditions. Thanks to the techniques that he masters, he has had the opportunity to display his creations in Tlaquepaque, Jal., Guanajuato, Gto., Jardines de Mexico in Cuernavaca, among others; Also he has done it in the international scene, being Chicago, New York, London, and the Vatican his principal destinies. Currently, he has had great sales not only in Mexico but in the United States, Europe and South America.
Josue is an artisan that is conscious of the importance of the preservation of the cardboard art, and because of this he wants to inspire others, leaving a mark of the magic and colors of Mexico in each one of this pieces.
