Meet the Artisan

Maria del Socorro Madrigal Martinez
I have 28 years working this particular kind of art figures made out of bee wax.
My first lessons were in a little course in my hometown, I worked 10 years creating and innovating by myself in my workshop. I decided to improve my technique, so I attended to Salamanca, Guanajuato to learn professionally about this beautiful art, so I studied under the wing of Master Marco Antonio Miranda Razo, from 1999 to 2003.
After a while a got an invitation to a member of the Casa de la Cultura (Culture department) of my village, in which I have been imparting a workshop for the last 13 years.
I have participated in several contests since 2005, obtaining many recognitions, from honorific mentions to awards. In the Grandes Maestros Del Arte Popular (Great Masters of Popular Art) contest in Mexico City, I have been awarded 1st place on multiple occasions.
Although my career might be starting it has been very fulfilling and satisfying. In the Instituto Del Artesano in Morelia, in the Museo de los grandes maestros (Great Masters Museum) they have a collection where one of my creations is been displayed.
I am the fifth child in a family of 10 kids, and my parents, Marcelino Madrigal Perez (Farmer) and Adelaida Martinez Duarte (Housewife) are my greatest pride.
